EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY GAMES 2016
BRONZE MEDAL
WIN IN CROATIA
Our Lightweight Men’s 4x made up of current President Jack McGarva, Men's Captain Chris Dove collected a Bronze Medal at the 2016 European University Games. With the event being held in Zagreb, Croatia.
Conditions were extremely hot with racing temperatures reaching a blistering 32 degrees.
The first heat saw a 4 lane race with 3 British crews including BUCS rivals Durham and Newcastle. NTU was quickest off the blocks to the 1000 meter marker, but strong finishes from the European crew from Zagreb and Newcastle saw them finishing marginally ahead of our crew finishing 3rd in the heat.
The next day brought more sunshine and intense racing. Off the start our crew again led the field to 1000 meters before the University of Zagreb produced an electric 2nd half to the race, going on to win the race by 7 seconds. The boys fought hard with Newcastle, just missing out on a silver medal by 0.8 seconds.
The medal tops off what has been a fantastic season for the NTUBC Senior Men’s Squad. It also marks the last race for the club for Chris Dove and Jack McGarva, whilst bow pair Hamish Bott and Sam Geller return for the 2016/2017 season.
