FIRST ROUND WIN AT THE ROYAL REGATTA
HENLEY ROYAL REGATTA

This year’s Henley Royal Regatta aired live on BT Sport as well as having the most international crews in the history of the event. NTUBC fielded our Senior Men’s 8+ in the Temple Challenge Cup for academic eights. The crew was looking to improve upon their strong performance at the qualifying race at Henley itself, on the preceding Friday.
The Wednesday saw NTUBC up against the well-established Durham University in the First round of the Temple Challenge Cup. NTUBC got off to a particularly clean and sharp start and once both crews passed Temple Island NTUBC were half a length up on Durham. As the race progressed Durham continued to put pressure on our crew to try and come back on us but the crew continued to increase their advantage to over a length by the half way stage. Coming past the Steward’s Enclosures the NTUBC crew further increased the gap to a length and ¾ and kept the dominant performance across the finish line. It was a fantastic victory for NTUBC.
Thursday saw the NTUBC crew up against the impressive lightweights from Yale University, USA. Confident steering off the start sadly meant the NTUBC had to stop after hitting the booms on the Berkshire side station. The crew quickly composed themselves and went on to finish the course.
For NTUBC this was a historic Henley Royal Regatta, we would like to thank the continuous support from families and friends both on the bank and at home.
We look to further build upon these results and continue this momentum into next season. But, we also say goodbye to 3 of the 8 as they will graduate. Strokeman and former President Jack McGarva, 3 man and former Men’s Captain Chris Dove, and Cox and former Secretary Rachel Matthewson. We wish them all the best for the future.
