A busy weekend of racing came to an end with the whole club heading over to Lincoln Head to race the 3.5km course. NTUBC entered 7 across our Senior and Novice squads. These included crews compiled of 3 Eight's (M.Im1.8+, M.Im3.8+ & W.Nov.8+) a Women's Double (W.Im2.2x ) and Quad (W.Im3.4x) made up of crew members who raced at WEHORR the previous day, a Men's Novice Four (M.Nov.4+) and Finally a Men's Pair (M.Im3.2-).
Division 1 saw both our Men's Eights and our Women's Double first down the course. First off was our M.Int1.8+ and with no competition in their category it was clear the goal was to get the fastest overall time of the day. With that in mind they went off hard and fast, setting up a strong rhythm for a big finish which resulted in the fastest time of the day set at 11:36. Shortly after the second NTUBC crew of the day (M.Im3.8+) followed suit and as they were sat between their competition from Leicester RC and Boston RC they could not afford a bad start. But this was not the case as they made quick work of overtaking Boston RC and pulled away from the rest of the pack all the way to take the win in M.Int.3.8+ in a time of 12:40. The W.Im2.2x had an unfortunate crash on the way to the start of the race resulting in a bent rigger but with this handicap in mind the crew stayed determined to put in a strong performance and finished in a time of 16:06 but looked to build upon this performance later in the quad.
Division 2 followed with more success stories starting with our M.Nov.4+ and W.Nov.8+, for many of them this was only their second race for the club and were hungry for a win. Both crews looked sharp and determined as they approached the final 250m of the race and with loud cheers from the bank, both crews stayed calm as they sprinted for the line. Both crews came away victorious and added to the silverware tally, with the M.Nov.4+ beating two other crews by a huge 2-minute margin and the W.Nov.8+ finishing almost a minute ahead of their competition. The Final two crews of the day came in the M.Im3.2- and W.Im3.4x for which both crews had athletes who had already raced in some form already in the day but this did not stop both of them showing a fierce attack for more. The M.Im3.2- who had only come together recently looked in sync and finished in a time of 13:56, to take the win and also receive the men's fastest time of the day with two blades. The W.Im3.4x wrapped up the day's racing with a dominant win in Im3.4x and another fastest time of the day for women’s racing with 8 blades!
With all our athletes winning spirits were high and we are looking to take this energy back into our training.
