Four crews from our four squads travelled down to Peterborough City Regatta to take to the water in one of the final regattas of the season. These included an M.Nov.1x, M.Nov.2x, M.Nov.4x and our W.IM3.4x.

 

The day of racing started early for our athletes Yiana Shakespeare and Megan Halstead (M.Nov.2x) as they competed in the first novice double heat of the day. But with love, power and determination they came across the line in 1st place. However their semi-final saw them narrowly miss out on a place in the final to a tidy Leeds crew.

 

Next up to the start was Jonathon Horn (M.Nov.1x) who joined NTUBC as a novice this year and has been making consistent progression throughout the year. His singles heat brought a field of strong scullers, which sadly meant he did not qualify to the next round finishing 4th but he rowed a confident race.

 

After a bit of a break it was time for our senior women (W.IM3.4x) to take to the water. They had only one heat to get through to get a place in the final and tidy sculling saw them sail through the line comfortably in 1st place easily. But in the final the other crews found another gear and in an extremely close race for the line between the top three crews saw our girls narrowly miss out on the first two places and came a respectable 3rd to Leeds University.

 

The last hope for a pot was left to the men’s quad (M.Nov.4x). In their heat the scratch crew finished almost 20 seconds ahead of the closest competitors from York University. The penultimate final of the day did not see a repeat of the heat, with York University putting in a good row managing to stick with our crew off the start, but at the 500m marker a strong rhythm was found and held to the finish, finishing in 1st and bringing home the first and only pot of the day.

 

A great day had by all in the lovely sunshine and a great start to the summer!
